San Jorge de Tandayapa Eco-Lodge & Hummingbird Sanctuary (Cloud Forrst)

San Jorge de Tandayapa Eco-Lodge is in the lower Tandayapa Valley at San Jorge de Tandayapa Hummingbird Sanctuary (Cloud Forest) and is part of the Famous Birding Chocó Bird Area of N.W. Ecuador. We are a private nature reserve located 1 hour from San Jorge Eco-Lodge/Quito or 1-1/2 hour from downtown Quito.  We offer guided birdwatching tours, bird and wildlife photography tours, natural history tours and wild orchid tours.  San Jorge de Tandayapa Hummingbird Reserve has numerous active hummingbird and tanager feeders, up to 500 bird species, pristine birding trails with several birding huts.  NEWLY BUILT at the reserve - Canopy Islands Wild Photography Center (a first in South America) offering optimal bird photography with exotic wildlife unique to the Ecuador Cloud Forest.  View Ecuador birds, mammals, Ecuador wild orchid gardens, Ecuador butterflies, running rivers, 2 ponds, wild surroundings and tropical plants/flowers. Dine with the Hummingbirds at our open air Hummingbird Restaurant in a total peaceful and tranquil setting inside the Cloud Forest. The restaurant prepares delicious fresh meals, with some cooked on the grill. The newly built lodge is beautifully designed with capacity for 40 people with spacious room accommodations featuring traditional décor with private baths and hot showers. Upgraded rooms are available with panorama views and balcony overlooking the Ecuador Tandayapa Valley Mountains.

Natural Areas: San Jorge de Tandayapa Hummingbird Sanctuary lays on the edge of our pristine Cloud Forest Reserve.  Well-kept trails explore the different parts of the reserve.  Our main loop trail (Toucanet Trail) goes around the lower part of the forest visiting beautiful primary forest and small creeks.  Our newest trail (Nunbird Loop Trail) goes all the way to the top of the ridge to a very ancient forest which is almost completely covered in moss.  This forest is habited by very localized bird species such as the White-faced Nunbird and the Toucan Barbet.  The most impressive views of the valley can be appreciated from here.  A new frog pond and a fish pond have recently been constructed and bring in new wildlife to the reserve.
